Which way do the ceramic tap cartridges open and close?
Our Blue ceramic tap cartridges open anti clockwise and our Red ceramic tap cartridges open clockwise. Now logically you would think that means if you need a hot ceramic tap cartridge you order a red one and if you need a cold ceramic cartridge you order a blue one. Well, for most customers that will likely be correct, however it is very important to check that your taps have been plumbed up to the UK standard for that to work.
The UK standard is your hot water tap is on the left as you look and the cold tap is on the right. If your taps are plumbed to the UK Standard then the above theory should work. But, if you find your taps are not plumbed to the UK Standard and your cold tap is on the left and your hot on the right then you probably need to buy a blue cartridge for the hot tap and a red cartridge for the cold tap.
One final point, you may be wondering why you use the words likely and should. This is because, as with many plumbing items, there is always the odd exception to the rule, so there will likely be a tap that the above instructions do not work with. So we would advise you to always take out your old cartridge and blow through it to check which way it opens to ensure you order correctly.
Which way do the compression valves open and close?
All our compression valves open anti clockwise and close clockwise so are interchangeable for your hot or cold tap.
